CLEAR ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT ACCREDITATION
MarryMark accreditation is designed to be transparent, fair, and meaningful.
This page answers common questions businesses and professionals have
when considering accreditation or certification.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Considering accreditation or professional certification is an important decision.
MarryMark is built on clear standards, independent assessment, and ongoing accountability. That means the process is deliberate, evidence-based, and not right for everyone and it’s natural to have questions before you begin.
The FAQs below address the questions we most commonly hear from wedding businesses and professionals. They are designed to help you understand what’s involved, how decisions are made, and whether MarryMark is the right fit for you at this stage of your business or career.
-
What exactly is MarryMark?
MarryMark is an independent, evidence-based standard for the wedding industry. We verify what businesses and professionals can demonstrate in real delivery, not what they claim in marketing.
MarryMark exists to raise trust for couples and lift performance for wedding businesses through clear standards, practical education, and proof of excellence. -
Who is MarryMark Accreditation for?
MarryMark Accreditation is for Australian wedding businesses that want to strengthen trust, improve delivery control, and build proof behind their client experience.
It suits businesses that are serious about professionalism, consistency, and doing the work to document and improve how they operate. This includes businesses of all sizes from sole operators to large venues and multi-team providers.
-
Do I need to be operating for a certain time before I can apply?
Yes, for Business Accreditation. Your business must have been operating for at least two years to be eligible for MarryMark Accreditation.
For Certified Wedding Professional (CWP), you do not need to own a business, but you must have at least four years of experience working in the wedding industry and be able to provide evidence of your professional practice and standards.
-
Is MarryMark only for large or premium businesses?
No. MarryMark is not size-based or price-based. It is evidence-based.
Smaller businesses often perform exceptionally well because they have tight systems and strong delivery discipline.
MarryMark is intentionally structured as a progression, not a hierarchy.-
5★ recognises professional foundations
-
6★ recognises operational maturity
-
7★ recognises leadership and complexity
Most professional businesses begin at 5★ Silver and progress as their business grows.
-
-
Can sole traders reach the higher star tiers?
MarryMark is built for a wedding industry that is overwhelmingly made up of sole traders and small studios. Our star tiers are not “team size tiers”. They are evidence tiers.
We are not assessing how big your business is. We are assessing what you can demonstrate in practice: how you protect couples, how you run a consistent client experience, and how reliably you deliver, even when things change.
How to think about the tiers
5★ Strong foundations and trusted delivery
Designed to be achievable and valuable for sole traders. It focuses on the systems that matter most to couples, such as clear offers and inclusions, fair contracting, reliable communication, deposits and payments handled properly, delivery planning, and practical contingency planning. For many excellent sole operators, 5★ is the right fit and a strong signal.6★ Proven excellence with higher consistency
This tier goes deeper into repeatability and quality control. It is less about working harder and more about having systems that make your delivery consistent and defensible over time. A sole trader can absolutely reach 6★ with strong workflows, documented procedures, quality checks, and operational discipline, often supported by templates and automation.7★ Elite performance and exceptional client experience
This tier is intentionally narrower. It recognises exceptional consistency, stronger risk management and continuity planning, and a highly mature operating model. It is still possible for a sole trader, but it requires a higher standard of evidence.A practical note for sole traders
Some standards may read as “team based” because they reference coordination, handover, or accountability. For sole traders, this applies to how you manage everyone involved in the couple’s outcome, even if they are not employees, such as venues, subcontractors, assistants, second shooters, bump-in crews, and any suppliers you coordinate. The expectation is that the couple experience stays protected and consistent, regardless of who is involved. -
How do the MarryMark star tiers work (5★, 6★, 7★)?
Star tiers reflect increasing levels of demonstrated delivery maturity and consistency.
They are not popularity-based and they are not bought. They are earned through evidence, systems, and verified behaviours that protect couples and venues.
A good rule of thumb:-
5★ — You operate professionally and deliver weddings directly
-
6★ — You have teams, systems, and repeatable delivery
-
7★ — You operate at scale, complexity, or leadership level
If you’re unsure, we’re happy to guide you before you apply.
-
-
How do I know which star tier is right for my business?
Start at the tier you can prove today, not the tier you hope you are.
If you have strong systems and consistent evidence, aim higher. If you are still building foundations, start where you can genuinely demonstrate your process, then progress as you strengthen delivery. -
What’s the difference between Silver and Gold?
-
Silver is a desktop audit based on submitted documentation and evidence
-
Gold is an in-person audit that verifies how your business operates in reality
Gold does not change your star level, it strengthens the credibility of it.
Stars represent the standard. Gold represents the depth of verification.
-
-
What is the difference between a Silver desktop audit and a Gold onsite audit?
A Silver star requires a desktop audit is an evidence review. You submit your documents and proof (systems, templates, workflows, policies, examples of client communication, and supporting records) and we assess them against the MarryMark standards for your tier. Depending on your star level, Silver may also include a short online interview to validate how your systems run in practice.
A Gold star requires an in-person audit includes everything in the desktop audit, plus an on-site verification at your business location. We review how your systems are actually operating day to day, confirm operational readiness, and validate consistency across people, process, and delivery.
Audit timings:
Silver (desktop)
-
5★ evidence review only, no interview
-
6★ evidence review plus 30-minute online interview
-
7★ evidence review plus 45-minute online interview
Gold (in person)
-
5★ 60-minute on-site interview and verification
-
6★ 2-hour on-site interview and verification
-
7★ 4-hour on-site interview and verification
Requirements for each audit will be provided upon booking. Silver audits will take place within 15 business days of submission, and Gold audits within 45 business days. An interim badge will be issued until the audit has taken place, assuming all application items are in order.
-
-
What about travel costs for the onsite (Gold) audit?
Travel costs are included in the fee for your selected Gold tier. There are no additional travel or assessment fees required for the onsite audit.
Once your Gold audit is booked, we will confirm the requirements and schedule. Any standard travel required to complete your assessment is covered as part of the Gold tier fee.
-
What do I receive when I am Accredited?
You receive the right to use the MarryMark badge and approved claims that match what you have earned.
You also receive a clearer internal operating standard to help your team deliver consistently, plus access to the education. -
Do I receive my badge immediately?
No. Badges are issued after verification and activation.
MarryMark badges are trust marks, so we do not issue them before the evidence step is complete. -
How long does the accreditation process take?
It depends on how ready your evidence is, how quickly you respond to requests, and overall application volume.
If your documents and systems are already organised, the process is usually straightforward. If you are building from scratch, the education and templates help you move faster.
MarryMark commits to undertaking the assessment process within 10 business days. -
How much time will I need to spend on this?
Plan for time to gather evidence and confirm your key systems are documented. For many businesses this is a few focused hours, then ongoing upkeep. This is an excellent investment of time to review where your business is at today. If you are applying for the Certified Wedding Professional accreditation, the investment of time will be helpful to support where you are in your professional journey at this point in time of your career.
Our education is designed for rapid upskilling and implementation, typically 3 to 5 hours per course including system build, scenario labs, and proof preparation. -
Is MarryMark Accreditation expensive?
MarryMark is designed to be affordable and accessible for the wedding industry, not reserved for a few.
Most businesses justify the investment because it strengthens trust, improves delivery control, lifts conversion, reduces avoidable issues, and builds clearer proof of excellence.
Education is a lifetime investment, and we price it so businesses can actually use it. Your education investment can be spread across your first 9 months, and one or more free courses are included with your accreditation depending on your tier.
Transparent pricing is included on the website. -
What does MarryMark Accreditation mean, and what doesn’t it guarantee (including bookings)?
MarryMark Accreditation means a business has demonstrated evidence against defined standards at a point in time and remains accountable to ongoing requirements.
It does not guarantee bookings, revenue, or suitability for every couple. It does not replace contracts, legal advice, or a couple’s personal judgement.
It is a stronger trust signal, not a promise of outcomes beyond what has been verified.
MarryMark recognises professionalism and operational standards, it does not guarantee outcomes.Couples still choose based on fit, style, and trust.
Accreditation provides confidence, not promises.
-
How does MarryMark market to couples?
MarryMark runs ongoing consumer marketing to build recognition of the MarryMark trust mark and educate couples on what it means to be Verified. Tiered. Earned.
Our focus is to help couples understand how to choose with confidence, and to reinforce MarryMark as a reliable signal of proven standards. This supports accredited businesses by strengthening the value of the badge over time, without promising or implying guaranteed bookings.
-
What is the MarryMark Code of Conduct and do I have to agree to it?
Yes. All MarryMark accredited businesses and all Certified Wedding Professionals (CWP) must agree to the MarryMark Code of Conduct and operate by it in the day-to-day running of their business and client delivery.
The Code of Conduct is built on these core principles:
-
Integrity
-
Objectivity
-
Professional competence and due care
-
Confidentiality
-
Professional behaviour
In practical terms, it sets clear expectations around honest representations to couples, fair and transparent contracting, responsible use of subcontractors, operational continuity planning, and accurate badge and claims usage.
Breaches of the Code may require corrective action and, in serious cases, can result in suspension or revocation in line with our Terms and Professional Standards processes. The full Code sits on our Trust & Governance page.
-
-
Why should I do this now?
Because trust is getting harder to earn and easier to fake. Couples are:
- Overwhelmed by marketing and mixed signals
- More risk-aware
-
More cautious
-
Less influenced by claims alone
Independent verification is becoming increasingly important.
MarryMark allows professional businesses to lead that shift, rather than react to it later.
Building your proof, systems, and standards now makes your business more resilient, more referable, and easier to choose. -
Do I need to complete all courses before I’m accredited?
No. Accreditation is not a “finish all courses” checklist.
However, each MarryMark star tier 5★, 6★, 7★ tier and Certified Wedding Professional includes minimum education and proof expectations that must be met and maintained.Education is completed progressively, not upfront.
To maintain eligibility:
- At least one course must be completed within the first 30 days
- Remaining courses are completed within the first 9 months of your accreditation period, based on your star level
This ensures standards are upheld without overwhelming businesses.
-
Can I use other courses or professional development as credit toward MarryMark education requirements?
No. MarryMark education requirements must be completed through MarryMark.
We keep education in a closed loop because our training is built specifically for the wedding industry and aligned to the exact standards we verify. This protects quality control, keeps expectations consistent across all businesses and professionals, and ensures the outcomes are defensible and comparable.
You are welcome to do additional training elsewhere (we encourage you to!), but it will not replace MarryMark education requirements.
-
What happens if I fall behind on education?
We provide reminders, guidance, and support. Falling behind is usually solved with a catch-up plan and clear deadlines.
If a business or Certified Wedding Professional does not meet ongoing requirements, we may pause benefits, restrict badge use, downgrade status, or require re-verification, depending on what the terms allow and what the risk is.
Once requirements are completed, accreditation is reinstated. -
What if my business doesn’t pass the audit the first time?
Not every business passes on the first assessment and that’s okay. It is not unusual, especially for businesses formalising systems for the first time.
If gaps are identified:
-
You’ll receive clear, constructive feedback
-
You’ll understand what’s required
-
You can re-apply once improvements are made
- Your fee will be held in trust for 6 months until you reapply.
MarryMark is about uplift, not exclusion.
-
-
Can I upgrade my MarryMark accreditation later?
Yes. Progression is part of the model.
As you strengthen your systems, consistency, and evidence, you can apply to move up tiers in line with the published requirements. Many businesses:
-
Begin at 5★ Silver
-
Upgrade to Gold verification
-
Progress to 6★ or 7★ as systems and teams grow
Progression is encouraged, never rushed.
-
-
How often is Marry Mark accreditation renewed?
MarryMark Accreditation is renewed annually, with ongoing requirements between renewals.
Annual renewal ensures:
-
standards remain current
-
insurance and compliance stay up to date
-
professional development continues
Your desktop audit (Silver) and in-person audit (Gold) are valid for two years. However, MarryMark may undertake additional checks within that period, such as a mystery shop, to confirm standards are being maintained.
Your renewal date appears on your Badge, and the renewal cycle will commence 45 days before expiry. -
-
Will standards change over time?
Yes, responsibly. Standards will improve as the industry improves.
Standards are reviewed periodically to remain relevant to industry practice, regulation, and professional expectations.
We aim to evolve standards with notice and clear transition rules so businesses are not surprised or unfairly assessed mid-cycle.
Accredited businesses are supported through any changes.
-
Can accreditation be revoked or suspended?
Yes. If a business breaches standards, misuses badges, makes misleading claims, fails to maintain requirements, or presents unacceptable risk to couples, we may suspend or revoke accreditation.
This protects the integrity of the signal for everyone.
Details on Badge Rules can be found in our Trust and Governance page. -
What if my business operates across multiple locations or brands?
If locations operate under different systems, teams, or brand promises, they will need to be assessed separately.
We’ll guide you through the appropriate structure during application.
-
What if I subcontract or work with freelancers?
You are still responsible for the standard delivered under your business name.
That means clear contracting, briefing, quality control, contingency planning, and accountability for behaviour and outcomes aligned to MarryMark standards. -
What is Certified Wedding Professional (CWP)?
CWP is an individual professional credential for people working in the wedding industry.
It recognises verified competence, ethical conduct, and commitment to ongoing professional development. It is separate from business accreditation and applies to people, not entities.
-
Who is CWP for?
CWP is designed for individuals who carry professional responsibility, including:
-
Business owners and founders
-
Wedding planners and lead coordinators
-
Venue managers and senior hospitality leaders
-
Senior creatives and operators
CWP is a personal trust signal that travels with them. It is especially relevant for client-facing roles and operational leaders.
If your judgment materially affects wedding outcomes, CWP is relevant to you. -
-
Why do individuals need certification if the business is accredited?
Because delivery happens through people, not logos and professionalism lives in people.
Couples don’t experience “a business”, they experience:
-
Decisions
-
Judgment
-
Ethics
-
Leadership
Business accreditation reflects the business system. CWP reflects the professional’s personal competence, conduct, and accountability.
CWP recognises the individual behind the role and allows professionals to carry recognised standing across businesses, venues, or careers. -
-
What do the CWP post-nominals mean?
They mean the individual has met the credential requirement and signals that an individual has:
-
Met defined professional standards
-
Demonstrated experience and judgment
-
Committed to ethical conduct
-
Undertaken independent assessment
They are not an academic title. They are a professional trust and credibility signal backed by standards and ongoing obligations.
Individuals can use the CWP after their name, eg Jane Jones CWP.
Details on using the CWP post-nominals can be found in Badge Rules in our Trust and Governance page. -
-
Is CWP a course or qualification?
No.
CWP is a professional certification, not a short course.
It is earned through:
-
Professional reflection
-
Case studies of real work
-
Demonstrated experience
-
Ethical commitment
-
Ongoing education and professional development
-
-
Do I need to own a business to apply for CWP?
No. You can apply as an individual working in the industry, whether employed, contracted, or operating independently.
It recognises the individual, not the employer.
-
How long does CWP certification last?
CWP is renewed annually to ensure:
-
Ongoing professional development
-
Continued alignment with professional standards
-
-
Can I hold CWP without MarryMark Business Accreditation?
Yes. CWP is an individual credential and can be held independently, provided you meet and maintain the requirements.
CWP and business accreditation are separate pathways, though the combination strengthens the overall trust signal.
-
Why would I invest in CWP personally?
Because it improves your credibility, lifts your personal standard, and gives couples, venues and suppliers more confidence in you.
It also supports career progression and consistency across different workplaces or business models.
CWP:-
Recognises your professional identity
-
Signals leadership and accountability
-
Supports career progression
-
Differentiates you beyond job titles
-
Gives you a credential you carry with you
A business can change. A professional reputation endures.
-
-
Should all team members hold CWP?
Not necessarily. Many businesses choose to certify key client-facing roles first.
CWP is intended for individuals with professional responsibility and decision-making authority. -
Can more than one person in a business hold CWP?
Yes. It is common and encouraged, especially for leaders and frontline client experience roles.
Multiple professionals within the same business may hold CWP if they meet the standards.
-
How is MarryMark independent?
MarryMark is independent by design. You pay to apply and be assessed. You cannot pay for a rating. Star tiers and credentials are only awarded when the evidence meets the standard.
MarryMark assessments are conducted against defined standards using evidence-based review, with controls in place to manage impartiality and conflicts of interest.
Accreditation outcomes are not influenced by advertising, sponsorship, or commercial partnerships.Accreditation cannot be purchased, accelerated, or influenced outside the assessment process.
For full transparency, our Trust & Governance page includes the Terms, Code of Conduct, Badge Rules, Professional Standards, Impartiality & Conflicts Policy, and the Standards & Integrity Panel Charter. These documents outline how MarryMark operates and how we protect the integrity of the standard.
-
Who assesses applications?
Applications are assessed by trained reviewers using a consistent framework aligned to MarryMark standards, documented criteria, and evidence requirements.
Gold audits are conducted by independent assessors with relevant industry and operational experience.
Where conflicts could exist, reviewers or assessors are excluded and reassigned to protect impartiality. Our Impartiality Policy can be found on our Trust & Governance page.
-
Are all businesses assessed against the same criteria?
All businesses are assessed against the same core standards, with expectations scaled according to the complexity, size, and responsibility of the operation.
A sole operator and a multi-venue business are not assessed identically, but they are assessed fairly.
Core expectations do not change based on popularity, location, or profile. -
Can I buy a rating, star tier, or outcome?
No. Verified means verified. Tiered means tiered. Earned means earned.
If the evidence does not meet the standard, the outcome does not change. -
Do you accept sponsorships or paid promotions that influence outcomes?
No. We do not allow commercial arrangements to influence standards, verification, or complaints decisions.
-
What evidence do I need to submit for verification?
Evidence is practical and business-real.
Examples include documented workflows, templates, client communication standards, contracts, contingency planning, team processes, and other artefacts that prove how you deliver.
Exact evidence requirements are provided during application and are aligned to the tier you are applying for. -
What are the rules for using MarryMark badges and marketing claims?
Badge use is governed by the Badge Rules and Claims Policy, found on our Trust & Governance page.
You can only use the badge and wording you have earned, you must not alter marks, and you must not mislead couples through implication or comparison. -
Can I use MarryMark marks in my business name, domain name, social handles, or trademark filings?
No. This protects couples from confusion and protects the integrity of MarryMark marks.
Refer to the Badge Rules for the full restrictions. -
What happens if a business misuses badges, makes false claims, or breaches standards?
We may require immediate correction and may suspend badge use, downgrade status, or revoke accreditation depending on severity.
Repeat or deliberate misuse is treated as a serious integrity breach. -
How does the complaints process work?
Complaints are handled under the Professional Standards and Complaints Policy, found on our Trust & Governance page.
We assess the complaint, request evidence where needed, provide procedural fairness, and determine outcomes based on facts and standards, not social media disputes. -
Can I appeal a verification or complaints decision?
Where an appeal or review pathway applies, it is defined in the relevant Terms or Policy.
We aim for fair, evidence-based outcomes with a clear process. -
How do you handle privacy and sensitive evidence?
Privacy is governed by the Privacy Policy. We collect only what we need and restrict access to authorised reviewers.
We handle evidence carefully and use it only for the purposes described in the policy. -
Why is MarryMark Education not nationally accredited and why are you not an RTO?
MarryMark Education is built for rapid, practical upskilling in the wedding industry. Nationally accredited training under the Australian Qualifications Framework is rigid, heavily compliance-driven, and time intensive. That model does not suit how most wedding businesses and individuals learn and implement change.
Our courses are short by design, usually 3 to 5 hours, and focused on building real systems, applying them in scenario labs, with a supporting deployment plan. This keeps education affordable, accessible, and immediately useful.
MarryMark Education is industry training, not a nationally recognised qualification. -
What is a MarryMark Ambassador?
A MarryMark Ambassador is an invited industry leader who represents what “verified, tiered, earned” looks like in practice. Ambassadors help lift industry standards by sharing how they run their business, supporting education, and modelling professionalism and delivery excellence.
-
Are Ambassadors paid or do they get special treatment in accreditation?
No. Ambassadors are not paid to influence outcomes and they do not receive preferential accreditation decisions. Ambassadors are still held to the same standards, evidence requirements, and ongoing obligations as every other business.
-
How are Ambassadors selected?
Ambassadors are selected by invitation based on demonstrated professionalism, consistency, leadership, and alignment with the MarryMark standard. Selection considers delivery maturity, reputation for reliability, and a willingness to contribute to raising industry standards.
Ambassador appointments are typically reviewed annually. This keeps the program current and ensures ambassadors remain active, aligned, and in good standing. -
What if I have questions or need help during my application?
We are here to help you move through the process clearly and confidently.
If you have a question, start with the FAQs and the Trust & Governance page, as most answers sit there (Terms, Code of Conduct, Badge Rules, Professional Standards, and Complaints).
If you still need support, contact us using the website contact form. Include your business name and a short summary of what you are trying to do, and we will guide you to the right step or document.
Please note: we can explain requirements and process, but we cannot advise you on what outcome you will receive before assessment.
